Jon Guelas sets out to conquer the Pinoy music scene

Filipino-British artist Jon Guelas wants to bring his brand of music to the Philippines.

Jon Guelas has set out to get in touch with his Pinoy roots and to bring his music to Filipinos. The 22-year-old singer decided to move from England to the Philippines and explore the country and its music.

Luckily, Jon has been tapped to host a travel show, Fiesta Filipinas, spearheaded by Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Department of Tourism (DoT). This gives him the chance to see the country and experience the culture from all over. The fact that he also gets to try out his favorite Pinoy street food is a plus for him.

That’s not to say Filipino-British Jon is not in touch with his Pinoy heritage. What’s very Filipino about him is his persistence to go for his dreams. “I guess it’s the drive to reach for dreams. We Filipinos are go-getters. And I am very fortunate to be around people who help me realize these dreams,” Jon explains.

One of his dreams is to collaborate with singer Arthur Nery. Jon says, “Ever since I heard his songs on Spotify and even attended his concert, I admired his songs.”

The Breakthrough Six Outstanding Men of the Philippines 2022 nominee has already managed to collaborate with Vivoree Esclito, who also happens to be his favorite Pinay actress. The two sung the heartbreak anthem of the popular series He’s Into Her, “Did I Let You Go.”

With its lyrics speaking of “what ifs” and “what could’ve beens,” Jon says of the song which he also wrote, “I was a fan of the show before my song was taken for the soundtrack. It’s such an amazing feeling knowing that something I’ve created can be part of a show that I genuinely watched and fell in love with.”

The show has also given him a wider audience with whom to share his music. “I noticed an increase of supporters and engagements especially in the Philippines with a large amount of them labelling themselves as fans of Jonvoree which is me and Vivoree. We shot a music video shortly after seeing the response of the song which also did really well!” Jon shares.

Fans will get the chance to hear Jon live as he is set to perform as part of the He’s Into Her concert at the Araneta Coliseum on August 27.

The talented half-Pinoy, half-British singer will also be taking the stage at the 1MX concert in London, England on October 1, 2022, at Apps Court Farm.

Aside from “Did I Let You Go,” Jon also sang a stripped version of “Best Time” from He’s Into Her. His other songs on Spotify include “Out of Love”, “Wonderland”, and “Work This Time.” Jon also expects to release more music with his EP this year through his label Tarsier Records.

Jon hopes that his experiences learning the culture and passion Pinoys put into dreams elevate his love for music one song at a time.

About Jon Guelas

Jon Guelas was born and raised in Cambridge, England, but his love for football led him to the Philippines to play for local teams at the age of 13. But after six months, he returned to the UK since he missed his family.

He has loved music since he was young and by the time he finished his studies at Long Road College, he decided to pursue a singing career. Within two months, Jon was scouted for X-factor where he earned four yeses. Judge Robbie Williams even told Jon, “You’re obviously, incredibly talented” and “you look like a pop-star!”

Jon got through to the finals with a group formed by judges Robbie Williams, Louis Tomlinson, and Simon Cowell. The band toured United Kingdom and parts of Ireland to sell-out shows.

In 2019, they did a mall tour in the Philippines and made appearances on ABS-CBN’s ASAP Natin ‘To and MYX Ph, Wish bus, and Monster RX 93.1. Jon also co-wrote two chart breaking songs which led to various radio and TV appearances in the UK and Ireland.

In 2021, Jon released his first two songs as a solo artist, “Wonderland” and “Out of Love.” He also signed up with Tarsier Records.
