MEDIA VETS TONY VELASQUEZ AND DANNY BUENAFE STAY ON TARGET ON TELERADYO

“On The Spot” tandem turns one this October

Filipinos have found a new go-to tandem for relevant news and information in the morning in veteran journalists Tony Velasquez and Danny Buenafe, co-anchors of the TeleRadyo program “On The Spot.”

Brought together in October 2020, the two have been dissecting the most pressing issues in the country while engaging their audience with wit and humor in their show for almost a year already.

Tony, one of ABS-CBN News’ most versatile and prolific news anchors, credits their chemistry to a friendship that goes way back.

“Danny and I have a long-established rapport that dates back to our early years as political beat reporters. Along the way, we formed a friendship born out of our mutual respect and appreciation of each other's talents and abilities, and our similarities in our humor.”

Danny agreed, saying that since they are contemporaries in the industry, it has been easy for them to switch from serious to light discussions and vice versa. Nevertheless, they remain focused on their goal as journalists.

“Our commitment to our viewers is we will be more straightforward in discussing issues that matter. Mga issue na may epekto sa bawat Pinoy lalo na masa. Kailangan may konting lalim sa pagtalakay at pagtatanong sa mga news sources,” explained the former news bureau chief of ABS-CBN in Europe and Middle East.

ABS-CBN Integrated News and Current Affairs head Ging Reyes also explained what makes Tony and Danny’s combination work and how this has made “On The Spot” one of TeleRadyo’s top programs.

“Tony and Danny have a deep understanding of government, policy issues, politics. And in their own engaging voices, they can discuss and explain complex topics to our audience. They also genuinely enjoy each other’s company and it shows. We’re proud that On The Spot is now among the top 5 programs of TeleRadyo.”

While their tandem is only about a year old, both Tony and Danny have decades of experience as journalists. After many years as a reporter, Tony went on to anchor numerous shows for ABS-CBN News, including “Verum Est” on ABS-CBN, “Future Perfect” and “The World Tonight” on ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel, and “Headline Pilipinas” on TeleRadyo.

Danny, meanwhile, spent 16 years of his career in foreign land as he set up ABS-CBN News’ presence abroad while also covering the biggest news events affecting overseas Filipinos. He came back from retirement in 2019 to co-anchor the program “Good Job” on TeleRadyo.

Catch Tony and Danny’s incisive interviews with newsmakers and lively banter on issues relevant to Filipinos every Monday to Friday, 9 am on “On The Spot.” Watch them on TeleRadyo via cable or online on iWantTFC, the DZMM TeleRadyo Facebook, ABS-CBN News YouTube channel, and the ABS-CBN News App. Listen to “On The Spot” via the ABS-CBN Radio Service App or the audio streaming on news.abs-cbn.com/dzmm.
