Ariel & Maverick’s film "Kings of Reality Shows" will be finally shown

Back in 2008 at the height of their careers, comedic duo Ariel and Maverick would always wear the brightest costumes and heaviest of jewelry on television as they go around throwing jokes after another, much to the amusement of the Filipino audience. They were undeniably the talk of the town.
The two were hosts of the reality newscast Totoo TV before it was defunct to give way for TV5’s Bitag. They also starred in their program The Misadventures of Ariel and Maverick and Mommy Elvie’s show, Mommy Elvie’s Problematic Show.
Fast forward to 2019, Ariel, however, faced the press alone to promote their film Kings of Reality Shows under Lion’s Faith Productions and distributed by Solar Films.

The movie, a portion of which was shot in the United States 10 years ago, tells the real-life journey of the duo as they conquer life’s challenges with passion, charm and undeniable gut.
“The story is all about us as struggling artists in this industry. We did everything to release this movie and show it to you,” Ariel said.
“You can see at the end of the film that this is really dedicated to the other struggling artists in the world and also to my mother, Mommy Elvie.”
Kings of Reality Shows was first titled First Ever Ever Movie Hollywood or Else (Ang Pinakamahabang Title ng Movie sa Balat ng Lupa). Ariel eventually earned the rights to air it this 27 November.
“I learned a lot about making this film. Whatever the result would be I’m still thankful. I don’t want to feel any regret, that’s the last thing I want. I don’t want that time will come when I’m in a wheelchair thinking why didn’t I try or fight?” he related.
Asked about his partner Maverick, Ariel mumbled, “He was hurt with what happened. We were both wondering why this was shelved in the first place; secondly, we were supposed to have a show before Eat Bulaga! We even had props already. But all of that was stopped. I had my day job then but Maverick didn’t.”
Still, Ariel hopes to rekindle his friendship with Maverick. “Whatever was withdrawn, I hope our friendship is still there. Whatever’s happening, it will pass,” he concluded.
Kings of Reality Shows is produced, written and directed by Ariel Villasanta.
