Chikkaness Review: BAKIT HINDI KA CRUSH NG CRUSH MO? - Built From Familiar Ingredients But Assembled With Skill

Bakit Hindi Ka Crush Ng Crush Mo? is built wholly from familiar ingredients, but assembled with such skill -- and with such a captivating performance from Kim Chiu -- that it gives formula a good name.

This romantic screwball comedy stars Kim Chiu (Sandy) who was just recently dumped by her boyfriend on their anniversary where she intend to give her virginity as a gift. She was so devastated with what happened that she ended up cleaning the office overnight. On the other hand, Xian Lim (Alex) returns to the Philippines after his supposed marriage did not push through. His grandfather, Freddie Webb (Chief) tasks him to save the record label company from bankruptcy. On Alex' first day, he was punched by Sandy as the latter thought that it was her ex giving her the announcement that she'll be laid off. Sandy is identified to be the most invaluable employee and she was pursued again by Alex to come back to the company to be his partner in reviving the company. Alex made a deal that he'll teach her to how to move on from his ex and be tougher in her next relationship.

The characters were likable. The directing style is playful and very in your face. Though it's the same old romantic comedy formula, where two people who can't stand each other end up falling in love, but it manages to work somehow. A repeat of a familiar material, but the engaging Kim Chiu is charismatic enough to make it breathtaking.

Kim Chiu gives superb humorous touch to her character. This is probably her best role. Xian Lim's performance is heartfelt and vulnerable.

It is easy to fall for such a sweet, enjoyable film that has so many funny moments, but what is really interesting is how this story keeps always reinventing itself while exploring the many possibilities of its premise - moving on and falling in love again. The characters develop, the music shines, there are a lot of mischievous and desirable funny moments.

The soundtrack, on the other hand, is still one of the finest, with Youtube sensation Jireh Lim appearing in guest role in this film that grasps the feeling of that time so perfectly while saying a lot of timeless truths about the relationships between a man and woman in denial of their affection for each other.

The ending was predictable, but it was still endearing and beautiful. I laughed and left the movie with a warm fuzzy feeling.
