Chikkaness Review: ONE MORE TRY - an incredible film that's dripping with cinematic style and overwhelming emotions

An extraordinary drama about four people whose lives become inextricably linked by a common purpose, i.e. to save a child suffering from aplastic anemia: single mom Grace (Angel Locsin) whose purpose is to extend his son's life; married man Edward (Dingdong Dantes) who got reconnected with the woman she had an affair before and will be torn between his commitment to his wife and his child from another woman; career-centered family woman Jacq (Angelica Panganiban) whose love for his husband means a lot of sacrifices; and dependable boyfriend Tristan (Zanjoe Marudo) who patiently waits for the situation to be ok so he could he marry already the one he loves.

Director Ruel S. Bayani crafted an incredible film that's dripping with cinematic style and overwhelming emotions. The plot is terrifically well executed with the backstory and motivation of the characters wonderfully presented. Bayani worked the music with the right moments to provide its audience with heart-wrenching scenes.

The performances from the cast are truly superb, performances that's worth to be commended. It has one of the best acting showdown that the actors of this generation has delivered. Angel Locsin and Angelica Panganiban really worked together in their scenes with a unique and well-developed chemistry that it's really evident that they're generous actors. Angel provided her most emotionally naked performance of her career. Angelica is very feisty and yet so relaxed. Dingdong is magnificent, he truly gave a stellar performance. Zanjoe gave a soft spoken and riveting performance. The film also boasts of its very supporting cast: Carmina was candidly funny with her punch lines, Gina Pareno  provided a raw characterization, and the child who played Butchok was so adorable and fragile.

For sure this movie will be considered as one of the great Filipino classics, not only for its anticipated box-office success but also for its emotionally-gripping content. Also, a lot has been added in my list of favorite movie lines. Thanks to this movie.

"One More Try" is one of the MMFF 2012 entries that's currently showing nationwide. If you haven't seen its emotionally-stirred trailer, hit the jump.
