Chikkaness Avenue's Fierce Forecast for MMFF 2012 Awards Night

After having a movie marathon in three days to watch the Metro Manila Film Festival 2012 entries, here's my fierce forecast of the winners and their strong contenders in the Awards night that will happen in the next few hours at the Meralco Theater, Ortigas Pasig tonight, December 27, 2012.

Best Picture: "Thy Womb"
Contender: "El Presidente"
Potential Spoiler: "One More Try"

It's pretty obvious that "Thy Womb" should be the one to take home this trophy. Since it opened in the Venice Film Festival this year, applause from film critics have been evident left and right. Some judges might favor though a highly expensive historical epic c/o "El Presidente" or one of the viewers favorite "One More Try."

Best Director: Brillante Ma Mendoza, "Thy Womb"
Contender: Mark Meily, "El Presidente"
Potential Spoiler: Ruel Bayani, "One More Try"

Brillante Ma Mendoza triumphs in creating a powerful and riveting piece of drama plus showcasing the remarkable performances of Nora Aunor and Bembol Roco. His greatest competition maybe from Mark Meily, whose "El Presidente" may win in most of the technical categories.

Best Actor: ER Ejercito, "El Presidente"
Contender: Bembol Roco, "Thy Womb"
Potential Spoiler: Dingdong Dantes, "One More Try"

I think this time, MMFF jurors will recognize the passionate acting delivered by ER Ejercito in a period biopic of the first president of the Philippines in "El Presidente."

Best Actress: Nora Aunor, "Thy Womb"
Contender: Angel Locsin, "One More Try"
Potential Spoiler: Ai-ai delas Alas, "Sisterakas"

Probably this could be the hardest race to call. No one created an impact like the Superstar Nora Aunor in "Thy Womb": every movement she does is so crisp and her eyes are so rich in emotion. Angel Locsin provided her most emotionally naked performance of her career. It won't hurt though if they will consider a tie in this category.

Best Supporting Actor: Cesar Montano, "El Presidente"
Contender: Zanjoe Marudo, "One More Try"
Potential Spoiler: Paulo Avelino, "SRR14:The Invasion"

Best Supporting Actress: Angelica Panganiban, "One More Try"
Contender: Janice de Belen, "The Strangers"
Potential Spoiler: Mylene Dizon, "Sosy Problems"

Did your bet make it on the list? Who do you think deserves to take home the MMFF 2012 trophies?
