13 Stars to Watch in 2013

After musing with all the old and new celebrities that made a mark in 2012, I have come across these stars that could probably shape showbizness in 2013 by having their significant spot. These 13 celebrities I believe should be given the break they deserve

  1. Ryza Mae

Claim to Fame: Little Miss Philippines 2012

I think Ryza is the biggest child wonder discovery of 2012. Her candidness and wit is simply adorable that you would wish to bring home Ryza with you. She’s being eyed as Eat Bulaga’s next Aiza Seguerra with very good exposure in the longest running noontime show. She will have her launching movie through MMFF entry “Si Agimat, Si Enteng Kabisote, at Ako.” Her life story that was featured recently in Magpakailanman was trending on Twitter and one of the highest rated programs that day. Keep your eyes on Ryza, she’ll certainly go places.

  1. Teen Gen cast
Claim to Fame: Newest teen-oriented show of GMA 7 with Protégé winners Jeric Gonzales and Thea Tolentino on the cast

From the makers of the hit teen show TGIS in the ‘90s, comes a spin-off that will define today’s youth. Headlined by the Protégé winners Jeric Gonzales and Thea Tolentino, they will be joined by Dianne Hernandez, Juancho Triviño, Sunyee Maluche, Abel Estanislao, Seth Isay, Gabriel de Leon, Arkin Magalona, and Gianna Revilla. These fresh and young faces seemed to have an energy that arouses audience attention. I’m hoping though that they will not commit the same mistakes that the TGIS barkada did before.

  1. Vin Abrenica and Sophie Albert
Claim to Fame: TV5’s Artista Academy Best Actor and Best Actress

Being related to popular showbiz personalities (Vin is the younger brother of Aljur Abrenica; Sophie’s aunts include Mikee Cojuangco and Kris Aquino) was not their ticket for winning the top honors of TV5’s Artista Academy. They have shown their capabilities way above their peers and was fully acknowledged by the set of judges and mentors that worked for them. Currently, they’ll be launched in a teleserye with Ms Nora Aunor. They’ve been doing their rounds of guestings as well as a pair and they have this magic as a loveteam that I think will put them on higher grounds.

  1. Max Collins
Claim to Fame: Newest leading lady of Dingdong Dantes on GMA’s “Pahiram ng Sandali”

Max has this fierce mestiza looks that you will be enamored with than hate. After her successful acting stint in “The Good Daughter” and “Coffee Prince” this year, she was elevated as a leading lady of one of GMA’s prized gems, Dingdong Dantes. Her astonishing screen presence is evidently observed as she does not allow to be left behind from veteran actors in the acting category. She could most likely land as a cover girl in leading magazines next year.

  1. Jess Mendoza
Claim to Fame: Gawad Urian Best Actor nomination for Charliebebs Gohetia’s “The Natural Phenomenon of Madness”

I’ve been rooting for this gent since he appeared as the main man in Charliebebs Gohetia’s “The Natural Phenomenon of Madness”. He radiantly merges his sensibilities as an actor in the movie, no wonder his work was commended by Manunuri through a Best Actor nomination. He has been seen this year in PHR Presents: Pintada, Anghelito, 24/7 In Love, and Mater Dolorosa. With right projects that will showcase his acting capabilities, I’m sure he could be the next indie actor that will have a successful entry in the mainstream.

  1. Mara Lopez
Claim to Fame: Best Actress in Ato Bautista’s Cinema One Originals 2012 entry “Palitan”

Lopez’ daring and honest performance in “Palitan” made her an actress to watch out for.  Though she might headline as a cover in some of the men’s magazine next year, this critically-acclaimed thespian deserves to be provided with meaty roles in teleseryes and movies.

  1. RK Bagatsing
Claim to Fame: Compelling performance as Phi in Emmanuel de la Cruz’ Cinema One Originals 2012 entry “Slumber Party”
RK’s flair for comedy and drama in the indie film “Slumber Party” showed that he could be one of those trusted actors that will put justice to any role entrusted to them. With his film slated for nationwide release on 2013, I’m sure more and more people will be captivated by his acting talent.

  1. KZ Tandigan
Claim to Fame: The X-Factor Philippines grand winner

Apart from being one of the mentees of the most controversial mentor (Charice) in The X-Factor Philippines, KZ has proven that you need not be a “biretera” in order to win a singing contest. Her approach in singing is unique that she became an instant favorite among the contestants. Recently, she won the Best New Artist in the 25th Aliw Awards. She’s also part of ASAP 2012 where she shares the stage with other singing champions of ABS-CBN. 2013 is likely to see her turn into a pop singing sensation in the country.

  1. Jane Oineza
Claim to Fame: Starred in controversial MMK episode, “Manika”

Jane's breakthrough performance in the MMK episode, “Manika” scored her a nomination as Best Single Performance by an Actress in the recent Star Awards for TV along with the veteran actors. Hope she will be groomed in the same manner as Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes as she deserves that kind of break considering her star factor and acting capabilities.

  1. Sebastian Castro
Claim to Fame: Well-attended Twitter party

When he went back to the US after his short modeling stint in the Philippines,  he has been very active in getting in touch with his Twitter followers (mostly, from the Philippines). It was his avenue to showcase his talents (saw him do the sexy dance and a bit of singing) and show gratitude to the people who misses him and wants him to comeback to the Philippines. Now, he's back in the Philippines and might give showbiz a chance. I'm looking forward to see him in the movies soon and act alongside with his favorite, Eugene Domingo.

  1. Lauren Young
Claim to Fame: Newest Kapuso Star and impressive performance in Kevin Dayrit’s Cinema One Originals entry “Catnip”

It all started with a rumor, then it became a confirmation as Lauren was present in the recently concluded GMA trade launch for which she tweeted, "Change is good, & sometimes change is for the better. Went to my first event for GMA & everyone was so nice. Can’t wait to start working! ❤" Then, she surprised me with a commendable and intense performance in "Catnip." I'm hoping that her star shines brighter as she faces 2013 with a new home.

  1. Martin del Rosario
Claim to Fame: Starred in “The Healing,” “Amorosa” and “PHR Presents: Pintada”

For me, Martin's road to real serious fame just started this year when he starred alongside with Denise Laurel in "PHR Presents: Pintada." He was perfectly casted on the series. Added to his accomplishments this year, are his remarkable performances in the "The Healing" and "Amorosa." I'm really looking forward for a big year for him in 2013 as he's on track in becoming next important actor in showbiz.

  1. Abra
Claim to Fame: Carrier single “Gayuma” that topped in MYX Daily Top 10

After reigning in the flip top battles, Abra (Raymond Abra Abracosa) has released a single "Gayuma" which is currently topping the MYX Daily Top 10, even leading One Direction's Little Things on the charts. His guesting in Gandang Gabi Vice was well received by fans that further increased his popularity. It has been said that he could be the next Gloc 9 and I won't disagree with that.
